Wedding Chat with Sande - Picking the Perfect Veil

I am obsessed with the show "Say Yes to the Dress." I am an insomniac and I love when there is a late night marathon! When a bride is a bit unsure about a gown, the stylists will add a veil and suddenly it takes everyone's breath away. It is just the finishing touch.

Veils come in all shapes and sizes - from a birdcage to a cathedral length. Brides magazine published the following article that I think describes the choices perfectly:

" A veil is a gorgeous and romantic addition to any bridal gown. Whether you’ve chosen a wedding dress that skews minimal or a ball gown fit for a princess, a veil serves a beautiful finishing touch. Don’t be fooled into thinking all veils appear virginal or exceedingly traditional—myriad styles are on offer featuring wispy tulle, delicate lace, floral appliqués, beading, and more. Don’t get us wrong, we’re absolutely in favor of a traditional look when it comes to a veil, but don’t assume like that’s the only option. Modern iterations feel fresh as ever whether you’re in need of a veil to quietly accentuate your wedding dress or serve as a dramatic finish.

If you’re game for a veil, your wedding day look, of course, starts with the gown. Then, you can key in on a veil style after considering a few things.

First, what length best suits your dress? Options include bird cage and blushers which are face-framing; shoulder, elbow, and fingertip length for something in the middle range; longer styles include waltz (which hits at mid-calf), floor-length (matching the length of your dress), chapel length (which will extend just beyond your dress), and cathedral length (which go far beyond your gown and can even serve as a train if your gown does not have one).

Next, think about what hair style you’re planning for. Certain veils are made for up-do’s while others lay perfectly flat if you choose to wear your hair down. There are even styles that perfectly accent a half-up, half-down hairstyle. You can find options both simple or embellished to suit any of these hairstyles.

Then, think about whether you want a simple veil made only of wispy tulle. If so, do you want a single layer or tiered? Or, perhaps you’d prefer something with embellishment for more of an impact. Veils with beading, lace or floral appliqués, or edged with ribbon are magnificent options in this case.

Finally, you want to consider budget. Veils are incredibly delicate and the more intricate the detail, the pricier they get. Luckily, there are options available at every price point, but know that a single layer of tulle adorned with lace could cost more than you think."
